Minimalist Game Day 17

The rules are simple, you get rid of things from your life, either by selling them, throwing them away, or donating them. On the first day, you remove one item, and then on the second day, you remove two items, you keep on playing until it’s the end of the month, or whenever you run out of things to remove from your life. It is okay if you can’t make it until the end of the month. Personally, I would rather see items get donated, or sold to someone else. If you must throw something away, I hope it’s because it isn’t fixable. Even if you have removed three items from your life, you should still be proud of that, because it is three more things you removed before the challenge. But if you are able to complete this challenge, you would have gotten rid of almost 500 items! That’s a lot of stuff.

If you are participating, I would love to know what you are parting with, feel free to let me know in the comments. This is such a fun way to welcome Spring cleaning.

This is from Wednesday March 17th.

Expired lip care (lip balms and lip sticks).
A photo album, and a notebook. I plan on giving them to my cousin.
A Christmas present from my Dad. He bought me a box of cookies.

I had parted ways with a lot of clothes that I haven’t worn in a really long time. It is best for me to pass them on to someone who will enjoy these items than I ever did. I like to give them to my Grandma, because she knows a lot of people and neighbours that always need clothes. I feel fortunate enough to be able to help others.

This is from Thursday March 11th.

At that time, I was going through my jewelry box, sorting through things I no longer wanted. I have gotten a large amount of jewelry such as necklaces, earrings, and bracelets for birthdays, and Christmas, and various other occasions. I don’t really wear much jewelry anymore. Mostly because I work at restaurants, and cafes, and we weren’t allowed to wear that. And now, I don’t really go out, so I don’t wear any.

I plan on letting my cousin go through my jewelry and seeing if she wants anything. And then I let my mom, and Grandma go through it afterwards. And then after that, whatever remains, my Grandma can clean and disinfect it, and see if she knows anyone that would want the rest.

How is everyone’s decluttering process going?

Day 59

This is a lesson from Sunday, which happened to be my boyfriend’s birthday.

We had a fun and relaxing day. I made him breakfast in bed. I also made dinner, too. We had bacon, and fries, and a cup of tea for breakfast. Then for dinner, we had steak, and oven roasted potatoes. Then we just spent the day inside, we didn’t really have much planned. I don’t really like to go out if it isn’t essential. My boyfriend didn’t mind that we didn’t go out. He was more than happy to just stay in.

Sometimes we think we need to make some grand gesture for someone’s birthday. But in fact, it’s the opposite really. We can get by with simplicity. We can have a simple birthday, and it will still be specular. I wrote my boyfriend a letter, and I painted him a picture for his birthday. He really enjoyed and appreciated my efforts to make his day feel special. Sometimes what matters more is your presence, and not your presents.

Today, I look for simple ways to make my days special. I don’t need to spend a lot of money or effort to let someone I love them. It’s often that simple things are more memorable, and meaningful than some kind of extravagant effort.

Day 113 of 192

Hey everyone! This is Tuesday’s item.

I have a lot of perfumes, because a lot of I had received various scents as birthday and Christmas presents. I have decided to give this one to my cousin. I had made a vow to myself that I no longer needed to buy myself anymore, at least until I finish everything else first. I have also told my family to not get me any more perfumes either.

Day 83 of 192

This is Sunday’s item. I was too busy enjoying all of the football games yesterday to post this. It was definitely a lot of fun! I didn’t realize how much I missed watching those games.

I have kept this calendar, because I really love giraffes. At the time I had received this calendar, my boyfriend and I were living at his mom’s house, so unfortunately we didn’t need two calendars for our room. I never really got to use it because we used my boyfriend’s calendar instead.

I guess I kept it because of my love for giraffes and perhaps from the guilt of not using it, since it was a Christmas present.

Bookshelf

I have always wanted to assemble something for myself by myself, and I never had the chance to do that beforehand, until last weekend.

It was actually a lot of fun! To be honest, I have only used a screwdriver a few times in my life, before. So this was an interesting experience, none the less.

The box of my bookshelf

So, I began, by removing all of the pieces first, I knew that much. At first, all of these pieces and screws were a tad overwhelming, but I knew to take it one step at a time.

The big pieces of the bookshelf.
One of the sides of the bookshelf, and the starting point.

Next, I began to read over the instructions first, and kept on referring it to ensure that everything was still good.

These are the instructions, and there is more on the back.

Luckily my boyfriend and I have a tool box for all of these projects we have been taking on as of lately. It is so much fun to assemble and build things. We had to get another bookshelf since the previous bookshelf we have was getting too filled with all of our books.

As you can see it extremely full of our many books.

This is what I was able to accomplish without asking anyone for assistance. I was quiet proud of myself since I have never done this before.

Completed the first step.

Although, I could have read the instructions better, because there’s a bottom piece that needed to be attached before both sides were screwed in. So I had to reattach one of the sides to install the bottom piece. Placing the bottom piece was the hardest part of putting this together. It was so difficult that I had to ask my boyfriend to help me with it.

My boyfriend also helped me install the back panel of the bookshelf, since you needed to use a hammer, and that’s where I drew the line. I have never used a hammer before, I think they are too scary.

Next we built the shelves, that was fun. Although I forgot I was still documenting this project, so I forgot to take photos along the way.

And now came the most fun part of it, which was to place and organize the books that I wanted to be on this shelf. I decided that we should place the books we plan on reading together on here.

I like to think we have an amazing collection of books, we have several Roald Dahl’s books, Nicholas Sparks’ books, Alice in Wonderland, Time Quinet series and several more. We reserved the first shelf for some small cherished items, such as our message in a bottle to each other, an endless knot which means our souls are forever intertwined, a giraffe that my sister-in-law brought back from their Honeymoon, and my perfume. And a sea shell from a beach my mom’s friend brought me.

On the very top, I have a present that my sister bought me for my birthday, and she placed a photo of my niece and myself in it. It even lights up, but right now I am out of batteries. It is also engraved which reads; “World’s Greatest Aunt”. I love having a candle in the room. The bouquet of flowers in the vase was the centre piece from my Grandparent’s 50th wedding anniversary’s celebration, which is 18 years old. My sister also bought me this jewelry box, which is also engraved; “I love you forever xoxo”. And then I have a photo of my boyfriend at his brother’s wedding.

These are a few most cherished items I have, so I’m glad that we are able to display them properly.

Make A List

Christmas is upon us and I’ve been preparing a list of presents I would like to buy for my family and friends as well as my boyfriend. ❤

I have also been working on a list for all of the people and things I am grateful for.

Today, I will work a list that will inspire me.
