Shake it Off – Taylor Swift

I really like this song and its reminder of that we shouldn’t take life too seriously. I enjoy listening to Taylor Swift. I feel like she has good music, and good messages.

This song she is encouraging us to not care nor focus on what our “haters” are saying about us. We should learn to not care about what people say about us, especially when they are talking bad about us.

“‘Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play
And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate
Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake, shake, shake
I shake it off, I shake it off”

-Taylor Swift, Shake it Off

#ThatPower – Will.i.am ft. Justin Bieber

Today’s song of the week is #ThatPower by Will.i.am and Justin Bieber. It used to be one of my favourite songs. It samples lyrics from electronic duo Daft Punk‘s Better, Faster, Stronger.

To me, this song is about keeping your motivation and always moving forward. And that no what happens, you can achieve your goals. And not caring about what your haters may say or think about you in the process.

“I stay on that hustle, I flex that little muscle
Hate to bust your bubble
I’m on that other level
I’ma take it higher and high and high and higher
I stay in fly attire
Keeping burning like that fire”

-Will.i.am ft. Justin Bieber, #ThatPower

Glad You Came – The Wanted

Tom Parker of the band, The Wanted, has disclosed that he has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour. I am absolutely devastated for him and his family. I love The Wanted. For those who may not know, but they are a British-Irish boy band.

I feel really sad for Tom Parker and his family since he is only 32 years old. His wife is pregnant with their second child.

I remember that my best friend and I used to listen to The Wanted and have a mini dance party listening to them. It was a lot of fun. But to summarize things, life got complicated and we ended up going in different directions without one another. We do on the occasion still keep in touch. Although not as much as we used to, and that’s okay. I still feel very blessed to be friends with this amazing person. We live in different cities, and things are different now, but I hope that our paths can cross again, soon. May this song help everyone realize that life is too short, to be anything but happy. I hope this song encourages us to take chances, like go to talk to that friend you have been meaning to message, quit that job, and try something new. Life is too short to be ordinary, go out there, and be extraordinary!

I will always love this song. I feel for Tom Parker and his family. I’ll keep him my thoughts and hope that he is strong enough to accomplish all that he wishes to. This song will remind me to not take life so seriously, but to enjoy everything and everyone. Never take anything or anyone for granted, because you never know when you will see someone again. All we ever have is this present moment. Another thing that this song teaches me is that everyone can enter your life, and can only stay there for a season. And when they leave, your universe is never the same again. Learn to enjoy the little things in life.

“The sun goes down
The stars come out
And all that counts
Is here and now
My universe will never be the same
I’m glad you came”

-The Wanted, I’m Glad You Came

Titanium – David Guetta ft. Sia

I have always love Sia. She has several empowering songs, so don’t be surprised when I feature her in another post. I also love hearing her voice, she is a very talented singer.

I like this song because it reminds you how strong you truly are. No matter what life and people throw at you, you won’t fall.

I hope this is the song everyone needs this week.

“You shoot me down, but I won’t fall
I am titanium”

-Sia

We Are Warriors – Avril Lavigne

It’s another addition of Music Monday! In case you didn’t know that I’m a huge fan of Avril Lavigne.

This song is about how all of our essential workers are working towards combating Covid-19. I remember she was asking for people to submit their warriors for her video. It is a really inspiring song and video.

I appreciate everyone who is working hard through all of this.

“‘Cause we are warriors, we’ll fight for our lives
Like soldiers all through the night
And we won’t give up, we will survive, we are warriors
And we’re stronger, that’s why we’re alive
We will conquer, time after time
We’ll never falter, we will survive, we are warriors”

-Avril Lavigne, We Are Warriors

Good Life – One Republic

Hey, it’s another Music Monday.

Even on my worst days, I love this song because it reminds me to always make the best out of every situation. It reminds me that I can have a good life, if I allow myself to remain positive about things.

“Oh, this has gotta be the good life
This has gotta be the good life
This could really be a good life, good life
Say oh, got this feeling that you can’t fight
Like this city is on fire tonight
This could really be a good life
A good, good life”

-One Republic, Good Life

Thankful Thursdays #9

Hey everyone, it’s another Thursday, that means another addition of Thankful Thursdays!

It is where I talk about the things I am most grateful for during the week.

  1. I am thankful for being comfortable with living with less stuff.
  2. I am happy I can spend time reading a lot of my books.
  3. I am glad that I got to see my sister last night and had dinner together. That was nice.
  4. I am grateful for being able to listen to music, especially the songs I haven’t listened to in a really long time. That is always fun!
  5. I am thankful that I got to talk to my friend whom I haven’t talked to in awhile. It’s always nice when we get to catch up. Hopefully we can hang out soon.

What are some of the things you are thankful for?

How Far I’ll Go Alessia Cara

Happy Music Monday! I absolutely adore Alessia Cara. Even though she didn’t write this song, she sang it so amazingly. What I love about her is that she sings motivational songs, and she is an incredible role model on anyone. This song was originally written by Lin-Manuel Miranda for the Disney’s movie Moana. Aleesia Cara sang this song at the end credits of this movie, and this song was sang by Auli’i Cravalho sang this during the movie.

This song is wonderful and inspiring because it is about answering your call, or your purpose in your life, and seeing how far your dream will take you. What is empowering is that we may not know where are dreams are going to take us, but that’s all part of the journey.

This song won a Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

“The line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me
And no one knows, how far it goes
If the wind in my sail on the sea stays behind me
One day I’ll know, how far I’ll go”

-Lin-Manuel Miranda, How Far I’ll Go

Try – Colbie Caillat

I absolutely love this song so much! What I love about this song, is that Colbie is encouraging us to be comfortable with ourselves and that we don’t have to change a thing about us in order for others to like us. Nor should we stress ourselves out if people like us or not. What happens is how we feel and see ourselves.

“Wait a second,
Why, should you care, what they think of you
When you’re all alone, by yourself, do you like you?
Do you like you?”

-Colbie Caillat, Try

Keep Holding On – Avril Lavigne

I have always loved this song. I have been a big fan of Avril Lavigne since day one, when I saw Complicated on the TV back in 2002.

This song will always have a special place in my heart. I remember my family went out for a family birthday, and my mom had found out that her cousin had passed away. He was very sick, and was in the hospital, trying to get better, but unfortunately he didn’t make it. My mom was crying during the car ride back home, and this song was playing on the radio. Being 12 and seeing your mama cry is heartbreaking because there wasn’t much I can do to help her better, aside from hugging her. I wasn’t overly close to him, like my mama was, but what made it sad for me was seeing my mama grieve her cousin’s loss. This song gave me hope that things will get better. I had never been to a funeral before.

It was really a sad time, because when he had passed away his girlfriend was was pregnant, and their eldest daughter was only two years old at the time. He had so much life ahead of him.

I know that everyone has their struggles, so I hope that this helps you, and remind you that things may be difficult now, but keep holding on because things will get easier, and better.

“Nothing’s gonna change destiny
Whatever’s meant to be will work out perfectly”

-Avril Lavigne, Keep Holding On
