Take a Walk

Today is Friday, which means it is another edition of Feel Good Fridays. It’s where I talk about incorporating a small tip that has healthy outcome on our mental and emotional health. It is really important, more so right now, to focus on our health. Especially with the pandemic still lingering and interfering with our daily lives.

Sometimes learning to take a break from our stressful, and repetitive routines is exactly what we need.

It’s even better when the sun is out, since our bodies are soaking up all of these extra vitamins which is important to have, especially vitamin D, which is known as the Sunshine Vitamin. Vitamin D helps prevent diseases and keep depression at bay.

The best way to give yourself a new perspective is by taking a walk. It doesn’t even need to be a long walk, but as long as you get out of your house, and move. It does wonders for the body. It helps you destress you in a healthy manner. It helps digest your meals. It can help you have a good night’s rest.

You can explore a new area in your neighbourhood. Taking a daily walk helps helps strengthen your bones, and lowers your risk for Alzheimer’s disease. It can help sharpen your mind, too.

You can walk with a family member, or a neighbour, while maintaining social distancing with one another. Or you can listen to your music, or even listen to a Ted Talk, carefully while still obeying traffic rules. Or you can just walk in peace, enjoying the sounds of nature, the sky, and the flowers. Whichever way you do it, there is no wrong way.

Today, I plan on taking a walk to the library. I can’t wait to go. I like to listen to music when I walk. Although this time I was planning on taking a different route there, it’s always fun to mix things up.

Get out and enjoy the day! Your body will thank you.

Relax

In this edition of Feel Good Friday, I am encouraging everyone to spend some time relaxing. It is important to schedule in some time throughout the week to unwind.

If it’s possible you should spend the last 15 to 20 minutes of your day dedicating time for you to relax. Whether it is you writing in a journal, reading, meditating, practicing yoga, etc. Being able to spend time forgetting about your stresses and worries, is so beneficial to your mind and body.

It is a good feeling to just not think about your stresses. Don’t complicate it, you can simply unwind by watching your show, having a bubble bath. Your mind and body will thank you for it.

If you don’t make the time to relax or unwind, your body will pick a time for you. Trust me, it is better for you to pick the time to relax instead of your body.

Emotion -Eckhart Tolle

I really enjoy how insightful Eckhart Tolle’s book is. I enjoy reading it. Mindfulness is something I am practicing. I don’t want to have to worry about the past that is already over, and I don’t want to be anxious about my future because it isn’t here yet. The now is where I want to be.

“One of the main tasks of the mind is to fight or remove the emotional pain, which is one of the reasons for its incessant activity, but all it can ever achieve is to cover it up temporarily. In fact, the harder the mind struggles to get rid of the pain, the greater the pain.”

-Eckhart Tolle, Power of Now, page 28

When I was reading this, I related to it instantly. I remember trying to think of ways to remove the pain of something I was either thinking or feeling. It really was like the more I tried to forget about the pain, it felt like the pain was growing bigger. What I had to do, was just lay there and not concrete on the pain, but allow the pain to teach me what I needed to learn. Everything that you go through, teaches you what you are meant to know. The universe is always right. Learn to trust it.
